Driving me (part 1)

Driving ME

The morning was cold and dark. The street lights were on but flickered. The fog came in the night and made visibility as low as 2 feet. Dan awoke to the sound of a telephone ringing in another room in his home. Looking up at the clock, he notices it was five a.m. “Great, four hours of sleep.” Dan said struggling to keep
his eyes open as they grew heavy.  With every ounce of strength he could mustered that moment. He slowly lifted himself into a sitting position. As the ringing of the phone kept echoing through the house. A sudden rush of adrenaline came over him that made him jump up and race towards the phone. The house was small and dark. Furniture turn into shadows and figures.  Forgetting that he had left out books on the floor, Dan trip on one and landed hard on his knee. While holding his knee as it was pulsing with pain. The phone stop ringing and he was left sitting on the cold hard floor. After a couple of minutes went by, Dan lifted himself up putting all his weight on one leg. He put a little weight on his leg with the now bad knee and it caused him to jolt from the pain. Not caring for the message on the answering machine now. Dan limp his way to the bathroom and open the medicine cabinet. He reach for the painkillers his mother use to always buy for him. He fill a cup of water and took two pills. Suddenly he felt a wave of drowsiness  and made his way back to his bed. The moment one of his single hairs on his head touch the pillow, he let the desire of sleep take a hold of him. Dreaming weird creatures and places only found in the nightmares of children.

2 hours later. . . Dan awoke to the automated voice reminder on his answering machine that goes off every hour. 1 NEW MESSAGE! 1 NEW MESSAGE! It kept repeating. Slowly easing his legs off the bed. Dan carefully started to put weight on the bad knee. To no surprise, his painkillers were working perfectly and he was now able to walk. With the messaging machine repeating itself over and over again. Dan made his way to the phone, this time turning the lights on along his way. He reach the machine and press play to listen to the call he hurt himself trying to make. “Good morning Mr.Kracy, I am sorry for calling you this early. But the job request you submitted to us have been accepted.” The machine played, already Dan was feeling better.”however, you must be here at 8:30 a.m. to keep the job. I do hope you get this message in time for missing or being late today will result in immediate termination of employment no matter the reason.” Dan looked frantically at the clock. It read 7:15. Dan knew it would take at least an hour and a half to get there so he must hurry. Dan didn't bother to shower or to eat. He dress and headed out the door. He took  out a bottle filled with these small green pills but it slipped and spilled all over the driveway. “Shit!” Dan thought while still running to his car. “ I’m going to be sneezing all day now.” It was 7:20 a.m. and the fog worsen to the point where you couldn't see the rode. Dan took at least 30 seconds trying to get his key into the car door for his adrenaline kicked in again and the fog made it as difficult as it would be blindfolded.
